Cooking Range

Cooking RangeHow do I get my range cooking island safely with children at home?

I just bought a house with the cooking range in the island in the kitchen. How can I make this safe with small children in the house. To keep the hot cooking utensils from sliding or being pulled by a child of four years.

There are security gaurds you can set up on the edges of the pan and it will keep little hands to reach and stuff slide. You can get these at Wal-Mart, we are babies and Home Depot. luck.

Good question, because I have an island too. My suggestion is of course always follow as closely as possible. I would also like to take the child and show them a pot of boiling water or whatever you have cooking and not get too close, but close enough that they can feel the heat and explain about the dangers of touching or pull a pot.

I have always tried to cook the eye that is most difficult for my little girl to achieve. You can also put up barriers around the island to make it more difficult for the child to approach. Something they can not climb and it would be difficult for them to leave.

But ultimately, I want to let my daughter get up from a chair (with me about her) and let the "help" me cook. She thinks it is great and the years pass a fast for me not to spend time with her. Good luck.
