Credit Offers

Posted on January 23, 2010.
Credit OffersWhat does it mean when you receive offers of credit by mail with slight variations of your name?

Ok, we all receive offers of credit that businesses have access to some of our reports (but not our social security numbers). But have you ever received offers that come with a slight variation of your name? For example, instead of Michael Moore, it would be Mike Moore, or TIF Moore instead of Tiffany Moore. Is this a sign that someone may have obtained credit in your name using a slight modification? How else would these offers keep coming in such other name, so I checked all the companies I have credit and they never used that name, and I've never used an alias? How could I know where these companies are acting this (shortened) version of my name?

Dear looking for answers

Thank you for asking this.

I have been divorced for almost 15 years and my eyes have seen a multitude of credit offers!

Said I use my girl's name to divorce, but on these last 15 years I have often received more mail for a person with the name of my ex-husband and my First name. I finally ended up claims that the name of the list permanent No Mail because it never worked to simply put all the pieces of the credit supply in the stamped envelope with a note of that person 's exist.

What a blessing that no list Mail was! If you are interested I'll see if I can find the link. -JOYfilled

They are probably getting your name in any company that sells your information to list some of the members or people who surf the net, picking up tidbits and sell what they can find. You can effectively remove these kinds of credit offers. There is a kind of federal law that allows you to do so.

Below is a site of the Federal Trade Commission that could be useful.
