Gas Efficient Cars

Posted on January 23, 2010.
Gas Efficient CarsIs it worth buying a new car now or is there more cars in more efficient gas coming in 2010?

I am thinking of buying a 2009 Hyundai Sonata, which gets about 32 mpg on the highway but I was wondering if they'll have more affordable gas efficient cars in the years to come. What are your thoughts on buying a new car now or later?

Things that are more effective than what you plan to:

1) Prius or other hybrid sedan, available now
2) VW Jetta TDI or rabbit, which was released about a month. I think the Jetta is expected to arrive at something in the 40s. I drive a 1999 Jetta TDI myself, and get about 47mpg on the highway even with my lead foot. It is not hard to find diesel. It's not as dirty as it was in the 70s.
3) Chevy Volt coming in the next few years
4) Toyota plans to make a plug-in Prius soon, so the first 40 miles after a charge may be all-electric
5) Tesla Whitestar and Bluestar are all-electric, coming in the next few years rumored
6) Think Ox (Think is a Norwegian car company, Ox is a model name) should be available in the United States in 2012. This is another all-electric, but can go up to about 85 mph and about 150 miles on one charge, even better than the current electric cars
7) Smart cars are available in the U.S. today, and get pretty good mileage. I think that more than 32 but not quite sure.

Personally, I'm keeping my 10 Jetta years running until QuickList come here in the United States. Fixing things when it breaks is certainly cheaper than making a car payment ... On the other hand it's annoying and I want a car which "works". So I think to test drive one of TDI news this week, then get on the waiting list.

It's a crap-shoot. They say they will come with fuel efficient cars in 2010, but (a) they have already rudely efficient cars now, and (b) at any time you make a new car with a new design will be have bugs that need to be developed. They have been making the Sonata for a while now, so chances are that you get one without problems. But if you were buying, for example, a Chevy Volt when they come out in 2010, chances are you'll have to try several times to have recall work done on this subject. So my vote is to buy a Sonata now while the price of new cars is declining due to the economy.

I think it depends on what you're driving. Does the car you drive now a danger? Me think now is the wrong time to buy a car until the gas price stabilze, who knows this might happen. You certainly do not want to be stuck with a car loan when gas is $ 10 a gallon. Stick with what you have for the moment if you can. Otherwise, Sonata is a great car. I also want to look at the Mazda 6. The Dodge Caliber because of its good milage and 4cyl CVT is actually like a mini-SUV.

It depends on what you drive. Nothing will change radically in the coming years. I give him 5 years to get the hybrid technology a little better, and by 2020 all cars are supposed to be 35mpg AVG city / highway.

If you have one car that is bad on gas, get something new today while prices are low. In my opinion, the gas will never be less than $ 3.00/gallon. It's just the way life is.

I'd say buy everything now, everything is cheap.

And if you have a car shit now, just think how much money you will lose the essence just to * possibly * save a few hundred dollars in a few years.

It will not be any radical innovations come out with models next year, so I would not wait for that reason alone.
