Gas Turbine Power Plant

Gas Turbine Power PlantLiving plants gas turbine near?

Hi, The ACT Government plans to build a gas power plant at less than 1km from a residential area. The "study" showed that there is no smoke smell, no health effects and no noise above the background noise. I would like to hear from people who live near factories gas turbine - is the highest possible?

I work at a plant in combined cycle gas turbine in the U.S. (to be bought by an Australian company). It is in an area zoned industrial in the middle of a metropolitan area of 2 million people and in the spring of 2009 a development company is building a complex market with 860 domestic units (a few houses mono-residents, townhouses, apartments) right across the street. http://www.dunbarcommercial.com/images/B ...

It is quite possible to reduce the noise so it is not stronger than the background noise outside the property lines of the power plant, under normal operation. If the vapor pressure relief valve lift (rare), there will be noise you can hear 1km. This is not a danger to the public.

Since they use natural gas as fuel you do not feel anything. Emissions from natural gas combustion is water vapor, carbon dioxide, carbon monoxide and oxides of nitrogen (NOx). CO is reduced by the use of a catalyst in the exhaust gas path, like the catalytic converter of a vehicle. NOx, a major component of smog, is reduced by injecting ammonia into the gas path upsteam another catalyst to convert NOx and ammonia to N2 (78% of the air we breathe) and vapor.

Ammonia is used to reduce NOx emissions is the only element of concern for the general public and we, the plant have engineering controls and procedures in place for the safe transfer of ammonia and treating with a statement ammonia unplanned.

Not only do I work this type of power plant, but I rented a nearby house and am building a house about 2 miles. 4 of 20 employees of the plant live within 3 miles, as do thousands of people who have no idea what this plant exists. The plant is located 5 miles from the north end of the Strip in Las Vegas.

EDIT - The joint study of the plant and the developer has a background noise on the side of the street where common residential buildings will be constructed in less than 65db. That does not mean he is strong, but it is this. The panel does not add to this background noise to less than 30 meters. If you have a background as low as you say may be capable of detecting a background noise. This means that they have the same design technique that keeps my plants without pretension.

Good Luck. I sincerely hope that this plant will not affect your quality of life Report Abuse

Hello, I'm another resident of the town and just realized the magnitude of this central mass. Some details below:

the initial study of the location of the site:
http://www.actpla.act.gov.au/topics/your_say/comment/pa/block_1671_tuggeranong

Documentation DA:
http://apps.actpla.act.gov.au/pubnote/pubnoteDetail_new.asp?DA_no=200704152 #

Apparently it was published April 11 (very quietly - I did not realize that the action group meeting in Tuggeranong last night) and objections are required by May 5

Must act quickly. My concerns are that the millions of cubic meters of exhaust will affect my children live with asthma.

Cheers, Dugald (Isaacs).

You will not be able to hear anything above the background noise more likely. I worked R.
