Saw many businesses with signs that say a supplement will be charged when you use a credit card .... Remember that when you add a surcharge, which pushes the total costs and the credit card company gets a percentage of total sales ... Absolutely. The truth Landing Federal law prohibits supplements until 1984. Since then, there is no federal law on this subject. However, in the state statutes CA, CO, CT, FL, KS, MA, ME, NY, OK and TX prohibiting credit card surcharges. You can collect a fee. There is nothing illegal. Most companies today, however, simply raise the price to cover any costs associated with being able to run credit cards to their business. I would go on this way, rather than telling customers ... "I'll have to charge you an extra three dollars for the use of this credit card. This does not necessarily make people happy to hear things like that. It is almost always the Convention agingst merchant account to bill a client or to a minimum order for purchases by credit card. If their report, they may lose the right to take credit cards.
