Posted on March 22, 2010.
Make A Wish Credit CardIs it legal to charge when the customer want to pay by credit card?

Saw many businesses with signs that say a supplement will be charged when you use a credit card .... Remember that when you add a surcharge, which pushes the total costs and the credit card company gets a percentage of total sales ...
~ Good luck.

Absolutely.

The credit card company charge you. You can pass on the client. You can even make a large fee.

As a company you do not take payments by credit card. They are required to pay in cash. You do not accept any form of payment in cash and more. If you do, you can put restrictions.

Ask Carls Jr. or Hardy, you use your debit or credit card, they add 50 cents for. But you can add what you want. Ive run a business and I know it costs money to use credit cards. You can pass.

The truth Landing Federal law prohibits supplements until 1984. Since then, there is no federal law on this subject. However, in the state statutes CA, CO, CT, FL, KS, MA, ME, NY, OK and TX prohibiting credit card surcharges.
According to trade agreements, VISA and MASTERCARD can not charge customers. Discover has no such provision. Amex traders banned surcharges which also accept Visa or MasterCard.

You can collect a fee. There is nothing illegal. Most companies today, however, simply raise the price to cover any costs associated with being able to run credit cards to their business. I would go on this way, rather than telling customers ... "I'll have to charge you an extra three dollars for the use of this credit card. This does not necessarily make people happy to hear things like that.

It is almost always the Convention agingst merchant account to bill a client or to a minimum order for purchases by credit card. If their report, they may lose the right to take credit cards. I think the non-profit organizations and government agencies to be my one exception to this rule.
