What Merchant Card Processing Services Credit Do I need to accept payments? I'm starting an internet business and will accept payment by credit card. Should I use something like paypal or should I just get my own merchant account and payment gateway? From my initial tests, my sales are very promising and I expect a lot of business.
Hello. My had the same decision to make when I started my online business so I know what problems you face.
At first I used PayPal, but then my sales have increased very quickly and I knew I needed to go to a merchant account / gateway setup to manage the payment of larger volume.
I came across this site, http://www.electronictransferservice.com and they really helped me learn a lot. There is much information on their pages and I discovered so much about how it all works with credit card processing. Their FAQ section is definitely worth a look.
I do not recommend that you sign with them anyway, but I have contact and was able to get all my questions about the credit card processing for merchants responded to a real person. It was pretty cool.
I finally went with another company, but at least I was armed with a knowledge far more than when I started.
I am grateful to say that my business and sales have been good and make the change was, for me, a good choice. You need to determine yourself if and when you make the switch.
One thing though, if your sales volume is not sufficient to cover the costs of processing fees, then I would go with PayPal and just wait till it does.
Hope that helps and good luck!
