OpenhciOhci1394.sys file is damaged - What does this mean?

OK, here's the deal - my neighbor "blue screen of death" she asked me to try to understand why / what happened. I told him that probably the best thing for me is just re-install the OS (XP) and everything else there. Kind of wipe and start over. She McAfee here, but do not see the need for advertising programs (ie, Ad-Aware Plus - which is what I have). I told him that if this proves to be a rootkit and then reinstall does not help, we'll just put in a new HD. After some research I finally discovered (by chance) that the file is damaged Ohci1394.sys. So I discovered, I put the CD "re-installation" to re-install XP BIOS is set to play CDs first turned its back on computer CD fired up, but don ' has not started the installation on the screen, a Waring comes folder Ohci1394.sys is corrupt ". I have searched for and found ohci1394 folder, open properties and it says 1394 OpenHCI Port Driver; still do not know well, I went to Microsoft and searched. It did not say much, did not answer my questions.

Here's what I want to know please:

1) What is this file used?

2) What should I do?

3) How is it damaged?

4) If I re-install OS does it breed?

PLEASE do not understand how to re-install the OS, I already know how.

I posted this question elsewhere and the answers I had were PPL tell me how to reinstall XP. This is not what I asked.

My profession is Information Systems, I have a degree in computers, but it is a bit different from him. This problem is in IT. You can talk to me like a geek semi-pro and I understand.

This is not a folder is a file.

How did she corrupt? As a person's computer you need to know that it is an impossible question to answer. There are many reasons and ways a corrupt file.

Why would you reinstall the operating system instead of fixing the problem?

Why not respond instead of asking another? Flag
