Used Gas Scooters

Posted on February 9, 2010.
Used Gas ScootersWho is more expensive on fuel: Gas or electric scooters?

I'm looking to buy a new scooter or gas scooter used, and I am torn between the two. I will be commuting I'm not really concerned about the actual price of the scooter / moped, but I am concerned that the cost of gas @ around $ 3.90 VS. the cost of imposing an electric scooter would. Any help would be great.

Based on the response of Dana, the gas can be more expensive fuel, but it depends how you ride. If you consider what is best for the environment, it is good that you consider using a scooter, but it really depends on what you drive and if your electricity comes from coal or something else.

If you go 5,000 miles per year on a scooter is 50-gallon gas, or $ 200. A scooter costs about $ 50 per year in electricity costs.
After 3 years, $ 600 in gas, electricity or $ 150, and then you have to buy a battery of several hundred, say at $ 450. If you are not going 2,000 miles a year is $ 240 in gas and electricity $ 320 for over 3 years.

Much energy has been the battery, which you pay. You're probably also burn lots of coal to get electricity to operate the scooter.

I would say that gas is more efficient and less you up. The electric heater will be replaced after a few years, no matter how you ride, and if you let the electric bike is connected, you're still using electricity just to keep it charged.

Response JS neglects maintenance costs for gas scooter. Emissions for electricity are much lower than gas, even if all the electricity comes from coal, as well.

Sorry, but my answer was better. Report Abuse

Gas scooters are much more expensive. A gas mopeds will usually get around 80-100 mpg. With gas at $ 4/gallon, it's about 4 cents per mile to refuel. An electric moped costs closer to 1 cent per mile. My current electric moped costs 1.2 cents per mile and my Previous cost 0.8 cents per mile.

You do eventually have to replace the battery that costs a few hundred dollars, but not for a few years. And there is virtually no maintenance, which is not the case for gas scooters.

Kyphi Hi,

The cost of fuel is almost always higher with a gas scooter. Load on an electric scooter is much cheaper. In addition, because a scooter is established, it is likely to have a repair bill cheaper. Gas scooters in comparison tend to have more problems with their engine. Since you are looking to buy a used one, it would be a concern for you as a new driver.

An additional factor, you should consider is how fast you should go for your travel. If you can get buy going under 30 mph, you will find a large number of electric scooters that can offer.

However, beyond this threshold there is a small list of electric scooters that can really go. If you need to go faster than that, expect the price tag to jump. This area is the area where gas scooters really win because they will often 10 to 20 mph faster than their counterparts scooter.

Also, if you provide additional information, I may be able to recommend certain brands if you decide to go with an electric scooter or gas.

The costs of a scooter of nickel per day.

But the batteries must be replaced about every 300 trips. so that the costs are included in it.
