What are the ways to improve gas mileage? Please do not tell me to drive slower ... I want to see improvements or changes that I make to my car to really improve is the fuel consumption.
easy.
Make sure your tires are at the manufacturers recommended pressure. usually anywhere from 34 to 40 psi works well.
freeflowing / silencer.
cold air intake / K & N filter in stock airbox, if no CAI.
accelerate slowly. not drive more slowly.
do not go 68 mph. fuel consumption decreases during that speed.
Make sure your car is in good maintenance. synthetic oils in the engine reduces drag, increases strength and you also get better gas mileage. usual things to check is the air filter fuel filter / / candles / son ect.
do not use your A / C when you can. If you go cruising with the windows down when it's hot, just use the A / C. Wind drag slows your car as much if not more than using a c / if it does not matter anyway. use one or the other or gasoline consumption to a maximum of just roll with the windows closed, a c / off.
and finally, cooler thermostat. Cooler engines consume less fuel and also function better.
Throwing money will not solve the problem at all. Investors gas they advertise all over the television and the Internet - the snake oil, every bit of it.
ALL biggest improvements you can do in the gas mileage is between your ears and your right foot. And yes, that means slow.
For example, as I demonstrated in a recent highway trip long ago a few weeks my wife's car to better mileage 2.5-3.0 mpg cruising at 70 mph than it does at 75 mph. While traveling 1.100 miles which adds a lot of gas. What's more important, a little time or money?
The acceleration is another great thing. There is no reason to hammer the throttle when accelerating from stop. You will not get anywhere faster and it does burn gas much more than the application of a very smooth, sweet gas.
Backing off the throttle early when you know there is a case of another gas is often overlooked in advance-saver. There is no reason to stay on the accelerator until the last second, then slam on the brakes just before the stop sign. You know its there. You can see blocks of several kilometers. You know you have to stop. Get off the gas at the beginning and let the vehicle coast of these two blocks and serve speed naturally. It actually saves the brakes and gas and in terms of time did not really cost you anything.
Mechanically, the only things you can really not the kind of things you should already be done. Keep up on routine maintenance and check tire pressure regularly - at least once a month but preferably once a week. Tire pressure has a huge impact on fuel consumption. Do not follow the advice of some of these idiots and others overinflate well. Follow the vehicle manufacturer recommended inflation pressures. They spend millions of dollars to get these figures - they know better than us.
Replace the old spark plug, replace the air filter if dirty, replace the PCV valve and your oxygen sensors.
Fill tires with nitrogen instead of compressed air or scheduled. nitrogen in the atmosphere is better for your tires is not it more corrosive as oxygen and rest and maintains tire pressure better if your tires are properly inflated will remain for a much longer time like 10 times longer .
Get rid of dead weight. Take what you do not need in your car as junk in the trunk. You can get rid of the jack and spare tire and just one can fix a flat or slime in your car in case of emergency a small apartment. By taking the spare wheel you will save about 30 50 pounds of weight depending on the size of tires. Your car uses gas from 2% more for each 100 pounds in your vehicle.
If your car is a stick Make sure your clutch is not slipping. A torque limiter will kill your gas mileage. A.
